Default Trans guy question

I had a TCI shift kit and a 2800 stall converter put in my 99 z28 (stock motor, with hand held tune, lid, SSRA air intake, 3.73's, flowmaster catback). Car doesn't want to go into 3rd gear at full throttle without getting totally out of the throttle. At light throttle it shifts fine. Also when I back up it feels like something is dragging in the trans. Trans guy says that the reverse thing is due to the converter. Says the 3 rd gear thing is because "3rd gear is going out". Am I being fed a line of BS or is this even close to legit. Car runs really hard, hits the tires really hard shifting from 1-2, shifts at 5500rpm. Only time i timed it she went 13.3 @105 getting into the rev limiter at the 2-3 shift and having to get totally out of the throttle and then backing out at about 1200 ft. so it should be a legitimate high 12 car.

It's either the 3-4 clutch going out or the tuning shift points rpm and mph.

Problem is if it is the tuning and you keep driving it like this it will ruin the 3-4 clutch.

No tuning has been done to the trans other than the torque management has been taken out. As for now, I'm just going to drive it until I can't. Was quoted $1200-$1400 to redo the trans with a HD sun gear and better sprag.
