Will a 4L80E work using just the mechanical gear selector post, without any of the electrical connectors hooked up? I just want to get one forward gear and reverse, enough to move the car around the garage (rather than pushing it.)

not big on trannies but i think you will get some sort of gears, lots of times without the vss sensor, tps etc hooked up the trans will default to 2nd gear. might be enuf to get it moved around.

That's cool... so the gear selector shaft actually does something then? I guess it engages the vehicle in park, neutral, forward and reverse... just doesn't operate that parts that put it through the gears?

With a 4L80E you get Park, Reverse, Neutral, and 2nd. If it was a 60E you get Park, Reverse, Neutral, and 3rd.

Thanks! I put my cooler lines on, filled it up with fluid (it took 12 quarts and could still use one more) and the back wheels turn with no electronics hooked up!

The lines had a little more pressure than I thought. I had a lazy moment and wound up spraying trans fluid all over the place.
