Default M6-->TH400 conversion

Typical price of a swap?

I'm in the prelimanary research stage and so far this is what I understand I'll need:

TH400
LS1 TH400 specific converter
LS1 TH400 specific flexplate
Custom length drivershaft
Depending on the type of TH400, I can use my stock M6 crossmember

What are the odds and ends I'm missing? I know there needs to be some type of trans cooler.

How much does a typical swap cost would have been a more accurate question? I'm just trying to get a ballpark.

I sold my T56, LS7 clutch and Hurst Billet Plus for $1500 and did the complete swap to a TH350 and still had money left over

madman dipstick

shield - i would get a jw bell and a blanket/ csr shield is nice but gives you a lot of problems with this setup.

the parts are pretty straight foward but its the parts you choose to use are whats gonna cause you to be done fast or take a little longer to get finished if that makes sense.

good luck

Ok, well I've been doing some more research and the swap looks pretty straight forward. I have two questions though: For the clutch neutral safety switch: Instead of rewiring the switch into the new shifter, can I just press the clutch pedal down whenever I go to start the car?(So the clutch pedal would just be there to start the car). Also, this swap is just intended for track use, I will be keeping the t56 for summer/street driving. By not having the speedo connected, will the tune be affected at all?

ok, thanks. I want to do the swap in a way so that I can easily swap the t56 back in whenever I feel like it.

I will say, i traded my t56 and everything needed to bolt into the car, straight up for a built th350 and everything I needed to bolt into my car. I ended up going with a different converter from FTI, that converter alone ran me over 700.00.... So take into consideration, your going to pay for a good converter. It wont happen for under a grand.

I don't think it can be done for $1000, but pretty damn close. After some research I'm leaning towards a th350 with a 9in tailshaft so that I can use my driveshaft(3.5in) and I found a TCI 3600 stall converter for $520 shipped which was made for the swap. It all comes down to how much the trans will run me.

Im not a huge fan of TCI converters... Just remember, a converter is worth the coin... Im glad someone talked me into the FTI.

even a "decent" budget converter, shield, and shifter will be >1000 bucks... my th400 setup was about 3500 bucks. 1000 for the converter, 1600 for the trans. shifter, coolers, AN stuff, flexplate, random odds and ends for the rest.

My take on the swap is that it's being done just for strictly driving to and from the track. I'm doing it on a tight budget where if reliability becomes an issue I'll always have my t-56 to put back in the car. I think a TCI converter will be good enough for what I'm looking to do but I'll continue to research based on the recommendations. I dont plan on doing the swap for another 2 months so I am in no rush for parts.

You can wire the speedo to the ABS sensor that reads wheel speed if you want the speedo to work then have your tuner calibrate it to the tire size. Of course this is assuming you removed the ABS system and left the wires.
Also I believe you need a 6" TS to retain the stock DS.

Info taken from the stickies
TH350 with a 9'' tailshaft will work with the stock DS
I could be wrong though
