ok so here is my car and mods.
01 z28-stock 241 heads and stock ls6 manifold
headers, ory, catback,
lid, ported tb
free mods
3.42 gear rear from a 6 speed car
stock 4l60e trans
stock suspension
tuned by me with hp tuners
removed some weight and the car is a stripper model... weighs 3225#s with 3/4 tank of gas
currently on a 150 shot with a nitrous outlet plate...
and using mt et street radials
car had some issues with fuel up top in third gear so best pass was a 11.58 at 112, but prior runs had a 120 trap... basically stock fuel pump couldnt keep up. (has a racetronix and hotwire in it now) best 60 ft was a 1.88
im looking for a converter on a budget. i cant really spend $1000 on a converter for it... the car goes out maybe once a week and makes it to the track maybe 3 times a year. i still want it to be a lock up converter tho just in case i go on a little drive with it here or there... but this year the car only saw 1100 miles so far and its about to be parked for the winter.... so i wanna get the most out of it as possible for a new converter but would like to stay in the cheaper price range for one.
I was thinking the circle d 278mm hp 3200 rpm stall...
let me know what you guys think

First of all, LEARN the price of converters before continuing to post how much they cost. The SS line from Yank is listed at around $725 on their website. I called up Dave at Yank, picked his brain for a while, decided on an SS4k, then told him I needed a good deal on the converter, and could he throw in a free T for the old lady. Well, Dave came through, and although I won't go into specifics of it, I was happy and so was the old lady. And besides, how could you not like a woman that wears a shirt with the logo "Yank it, and get off quicker."
Seriously, you get what you pay for with converters. With the $700 billet front converters, they start with a huge billet piece of steel. Its then carved down by CNC machines. These machines I would estimate cost around 100-125 thousand dollars. You are getting a beautifully crafted piece built to take care of business. Food for thought.

i know all the process that goes into making one. i know how they are machined and what machines it takes to do it because i am a x machinist. but like i said its a budget built car. yes you get what you paid for. so basically everyone is on yanks nuts around here. which dont get me wrong i would love to have a nice yank converter. but from what i have read circle d makes some bad *** converters as well and im sure there are other options besides just yank with their 700-800 dollar converter. yeah its 725 on their website plus shipping. i was just rounding it off... better to figure high then low. and they go as high as $945 on there. like i said im doing a budget build and see the circle d converter being a good piece for $400

I think that Circle Ds budget converter may be a good option for you, Yank may have one similar as well I'm not sure. For all I know you were talking about a TCI or Revmax or some ****. You really didn't specify. That being said, I would choose a site sponsor for a converter bc IMO we have great converter/trans sponsors here in this section. But, I still say if you can hold off and spend $700 instead of $400, I think you'd be happier in the end.

Yeah sorry I didn't see the 278 mm or whatever, obviously indicating we are discussing a non-billet unit. You obviously have your mind made up, so I don't really see the point in this thread at all honestly. Unless of course it was titled simply "Only experienced with circle D 278mm come in" You aren't looking for generalized advice, so I don't know why the intro post is the length of a book.

You get what you pay for. I have had my fair share of things that were not expensive that has worked great don't get me wrong. If I were in your shoes, I would just wait and save up for the converter you want, not the one you are gonna settle for. Think about future mods. Oh and if you do put a stall in the car, its highly recommended that you put a cooler in it....Just my $.02

You can't go wrong with the Circle D,Yank or the Vigalante. However I would wait another month and see if any of these companys is going to throw a Christmas Sale!! It's about that time of year and I'm sure you could use the savings.

I got a FTI and it's great, paid $695 shipped for it. I've heard good things about that Circle D converter for people on a budget. Why don't you give them a call and see what they say? I'm sure they'll be willing to talk to you.

I bought the Circle-D 278mm 3200 rpm stall for my having my 4l60e built in July for a nearly stock car. It made a world of difference and appeared to be a well built product. But I'm just another broke ls1 owner with little experience or opinion. . .

I have the same setup you have and was looking for a converter as well. I ended picking up a Vig 3200 from a friend for 100 bucks and sent it off to Precision Ind. for a rebuild that only cost me about 300 bucks. Add another 50 bucks for shipping I got a new converter for around $450. Just my 2 cents

I had the Yank 278mm before. It worked exceptionally well for what it was, and what it cost. I moved up to the Yank SS4000, and haven't looked back. Went from low 1.7 60's to low 1.5's! Well worth it, especially at $675 shipped!!! I'd go with the SS3600 if you're looking to spray it though.
