Default th400 swap questions

ok,
I have a few questions,

I was originally a M6 car, I am swappiong to a TH400. The person I got the conversion from says that he has Yank kit. but I dont think that is the case. He has the yank crossmember, but the converter he says is a precision VIG, but TCI is engraved into the converter in like 3 places.

Any way my questions stem from this.

How do I get around having to push the clutch pedal in to start the car? Do i cross wires, put a switch?

and the speedo. He gave me a reader, and a sprocket. this goes on the tail shaft from what I can tell, but i dont see any where for the sender to be placed to read from, and also the sprocket has to be pressed on right?

thanks, I appericate all the help

To get the car to start you just have to splice into the lower clutch sensor and run that to the neutral safety switch on the shifter. It will simulate the clutch sensor closing for you. You can take the clutch pedal out after that.

The speedo goes into the tailshaft of the transmission on the driver side at the 10 o'clock position. You also need a wiring harness to plug into it. You simply splice that into the speedo sensor on the tranny. You will need to adjust your tire size to somewhere around 51" tall to get the right pulse rate in your computer for the VSS. Otherwise you can easily be running 160 MPH at 3000 RPM in 3rd gear!

just take the master cylinder out of your car and push the pedal down and it will stick, then your car will start.

There is no neutral saftey switch on the M6 shifter, but there should be one on your pro stick shifter. Should just be a small contact switch on it. Just connect the wires up to that.

I don't think I have a close enough view of the tailshaft to see the speedo connector. Snap a photo and send it to me (derty@derty.org). I'll take a look at it for you.

I am just thinking here, arent the th400s set up for a mechanical speedo? so there is a spinning gear in there to turn the speedo cable that is comming out of there. so how would this gear and magnetic snesor work? I dont have a place for it to bolt into and there is only 1 bolt hole on the snesor.

this is starting to get frustrating

The gear goes in the tranny through the tailshaft end. It replaces the current cable setup. The sensor goes into the hole where the cable came out. In general terms. You may want to call up Yank and ask them about it. They should be able to walk you right through it.

If you have a M6 car you divide your tire diameter by 2.4 to make the speedo right. I have to use 11.25 for my 27" tall tires

The GM # for the pigtail for the speedo sensor is 12085498.

You will have to pull the tailshaft and swap the gear for the reluctor wheel, its not hard. Some tailshafts are different and wont accept the electronic speedo sensor so if it looks like it wont fit in the hole it probably wont - local trans shop can be your friend there

Most likely the converter started life as a TCI and was redone by vigilante or vice-versa, thats pretty common, I'll be sending my Yank to TCI to get redone and I'm sure it will have a TCI sticker on it when it comes back..

If you go to an NHRA dragstrip hook up the nuetral safety switch on the shifter, if your shifter doesnt have one get one - nothing worst then reaching the window and starting the car in gear..

Its a pain but it will be worth it when its done..

You may need a different tailshft housing, not a big deal to get at any trans ship. I'm not sure what you have but you should have the big sensor with a two wire plug and a reluctor wheel, also you can hook up the wires either way.

You will have to delete a couple codes also, one that comes on after a while about the cluch not being used and there are a couple for the reverse inhibit snd skip shift - dont remember the numbers but the SES light will come on soon enough with the codes
