Default Manual Valve Body Driveability

I'm planning on getting a local shop build me a 4L80E with manual valve body for my street/strip project next month. Driveability isn't a big concern for me but I want to know what to expect from a manual valvebody especially when slowing down or downshifting.

It works like a standard if the shifter is in 4th you in 4th, if you pull it down into 2ed your now in 2ed. Is that what you wanted to know?

I don't know how it will be with that trans, but usually you will want to come to a complete stop before downshifting. It's a slight pain, but not too bad

Buddy of mine has a 4l80 w/ manual valve body in his car. You can downshift it from any speed. He drives it on the street more than at the track.

This ^^

I've heard some advice like this, since autos down have a clutch downshifting is a little tricky especially if you are off the throttle like slowing down at a stoplight.

You just drive it like a standard minus the clutch. Down shifts are not an issue. Buy a good ratchet shifter and thrash through the gears at will.

You upshift and downshift with the shift lever in a manner that is close to the same transmission shifting automatically. It's not rocket science.

As long as your on the throttle it fine. Again that's the way it is with my 400.
