Default Transmission troubles

Hey all, got a question for any that would be inclined to help me out. I just bought a 94 Camaro Z28 a month ago. Well, everything ran great when I got it (that's always how it starts huh?) except for a slow oil leak which I promptly fixed. Well, now the tranny has started to slip when I slow down to stop. Just within the last couple of days, at between 40-60 mph it acts and sounds like it is trying to stall out on me. I have checked the fluid, it's a little discolored, but nothing there that would cause this problem. My next course of action is to check the vacuum lines to make sure there is no breaks or loose connections. I am thinking, from the way it idles and how it chugs at those certain speeds, that this is the problem. I would like to know what you guys think though. I've had one guy at work say that it is possible that the tranny has shifted backwards and just isn't getting a good bite on the flywheel. While that is a valid suggestion, I think that the car would shimmy and rock pretty hard when I put it in gear from park or go from reverse to drive. I could be wrong, which wouldn't surprise me, I guess I am just holding my breath on it being the vacuum lines...because let's face it, those are a LOT cheaper and easier to repair then most other things on the tranny! Let me know what you think guys, thanks for any helpful hints.

Talk about post ***** Jesus......

OP, are you manual or auto trans? Can you isolate this problem to a certain gear or rpm? I know you said 40-60 mph but what if you change gears but run the same speed?
