the 228r w/ a 3200 and 2.73s will be a decent street setup. personally id run at least a 3600 and more gear.

i thought about the 3600, but 3200 has done me well so far. the gears im keeping due to going turbo later. for now im looking at cams that do well N/A and carry that over to the turbo side.

im not a cam expert but you should get a boost cam for your turbo down the line with more of a split than 228/228. the 02-04 ls6 cam is good for boost.

i havnt bought any cams yet, just doing some searches on what people have used. as for the LS6 cam, alot of people have mentioned that that cam gives too much down low for a stock cam. dont want to do all that work for such a tiny cam in the first place.
but i wont detrack off this thread abuot my build. just want to know about peoples experience with the 228r on here. thanks though, trust me, im all over the place right now asking about cams lol

@ Joshua:
Im also doing a turbo build. I just installed a performabuilt lvl II with a 3200 stall and 2:73 gears. I am on my phone right now and cant see any sigs, so im assuming you too still have a 346". If so I have been looking at cams in the mid 220's duration and a low .580 lift. Comp cams has a 224/224-581/581 115lsa, and Speed inc. also has a turbo cam with similar numbers 225/225-581/581 on a 113 lsa. I like a lopey cam so Im leaning towards the speed inc. cam.

@ spdemon:
Heads, cam, spray and some 3:42 gears.
Um. 3600+ stall all day, and tomorrow too please.
Install a tranny cooler and you will be fine. My local speed limit in NYC is 30 mph everywhere and I have no problem with over heating. Good luck.

thats pretty much what im looking at. between 224 and 228 cams for my build with most of them all under .588 lift and 114 LSA. and you are correct im still on my 346. the TU1 cam has been calling me as well, but just looking at all my options before i pull the trigger.

@ mjs
Ls6 cam nowadays make a really nice paper weight. And no large traditional split pattern for turbo, they tend to bleed out boost. What works for a supercharger will hurt a turbo. Boost is not just boost. Superchargers and turbochargers make boost in different ways. Turbos like single pattern cams (228/228, 225/225 etc) or reverse split cams (228/226, 225/222 etc).

I thought of going Z06 cam at first but after reading more and more, unless its just laying around and you wan tto save money, its not worth the effort for such minimual gains.
im heavily considering a 228r cam but wondering if i should stay smaller like a 224R or even a TU1 225 cam. i guess its gonna come to which will be cheaper when i come across it, but REALLY like the 228 cam for some reason lol
