Default Best Stall to match up with TSP 228R cam?

Just wondering what to go with. Probably going with a Vigilante since I have had good success with them. Only ones I've had from them are 2800 stall speed. Should i go Higher? Our local speed limits here are very low, and I don't want to run it too hot because the converter is too loose.

Set-Up:

Heads/Cam/Spray.

Expecting over 550rwhp.

3.42 gears in it.

What do you think?

if its for a 4L60e you will have a lock up clutch.if you get the right str it won't slip much at higher speeds.most ls1 engines like a 3500 + stall.

I have that exact cam with a yank 3600. It is a good combo and very streetable. Car idles great at 750 rpm. I got the small b&m tranny cooler and it never runs hot.

i have a vigilante 3200 and it drives really good. I have been tossing around the idea of stepping up to a 3800 stall atleast.

Was there a reduction in E.T.'s after the swap?

Does that happen to be the only change from your old best to your new best?

I would at least throw in a 3000 stall speed. You can definitely go bigger but if you are looking for the lower side you can go and still have great street manners, a 3000 stall speed will do the trick!

if i am not mistaken, most converter manufacturers usually offer a free restall, so you could always step it up if you went too small the first time. it is a pita to have to drop the tranny again, but it is usually an option. harldy ever do you see people going to a smaller stall, but some do, but even in this thread some are considering stepping up. 3600 would prob be a good start.

I say 3600, if you are gonna do it, make it count.

I'd do a Yank SS3200 or SS3600. They seam to drive tighter than the Vigs.

We have run a TON of Vigilante and Yank converters. Both are extremely nice and haven't had a problem with either. Both offer a free restall as well. The Yanks do tend to be a little tighter and are a little cheaper on the lower stall speed converters. I wouldn't hesitate to put either in one of my cars.

I had performabuilt build me a 2800rpm 9.5" lockup stall and it was very nice. Drove very much like stock, right not much lag and semeed to fit very nicely with the 228r. I had 3.23 gears.
