Default The M6 guy's are gonna kill me.

I've been thinking about doing this since the begining of winter. Going from my 6spd to an auto How much money will an A4 conversion cost? I will be paying for all the labor $70/hr. I'm just looking for a ballpark figure here. Thanks.

When I went from an auto to 6 sp I paid $500 and the car I switched w/ paid $500.
So, $1000 labor plus any parts.
Why are you switching? The t56 is much more fun!!

To save $2800 on a new rear. Being more consistant is a good thing. I'm getting into a HUGE mortgage payment and would like my toy to last and be ( almost ) trouble free.

BEWARE!!! not only do you have to pay for the swap, but if you make some real power or run your car hard, you will need to build the tranny. I just got done sending my tranny in (still running, but not shifting right) to Rossler for a complete rebuild. They do the best/strongest 4L60E PERIOD...but it costs alot. $68 shipping wach way, $2695 for the top of the line rebuild, plus some hard parts from my tranny being so beat up...total was $3,771 from Rossler with the two way shipping, plus I sent in my Vigilante single disc converter and upgraded to the multidisc (brand new converter) for $375, which with shipping was right at $400. I ordered 12 qts of Royal Purple Synthetic AtF, at about $7 per quart, so there is another $90 delivered. I am over $4200 total not counting labor to have a friend R&R the trany in is shop.

Before you make the switch, make sure your prepared to go all the way or stay with the 6-speed and buy a badass clutch and stout rear end. I love driving a built auto, have had Rossler trannys since 1990. However, the initial investment to do it right is pretty big. Now, I will have years of hardcore racing with tranny fluid changes and maybe an ocasional freshening (few hundred $$) and no problems. My stock 10 bolt with studs and girdle will probably live for quite a while behind the auto and good suspension (saving me $2500-3000 for an aftermarket rear). It is much better to have a built auto with good converter when drag racing, street racing, etc in my opinion, and that is what i mainly do.

Just be sure you understand all that is necessary to do the swap and build the tranny and get a good converter.

Thank you SDB. I ask my questions here first because of answers like that. I have a Spec3 so maybe I'll stick with it. Get it " stick with it " its getting late.
