Default Stall locking up at wot at 100mph? Feels like a shift?

Every now and than when I stomp it going WOT at 100 mph the rpm's drop from 5k to about 4800 rpm's, it feels like a mini shift. I am thinking it is the stall locking up for some reason, but just wanting to know for sure what it is. Any ideas?

The problem is only at WOT. My car normally locks up at normal acceleration at about 45mph. I just changed the fluid a cuple thousand miles back when I put the converter in. It has something to do with the new stall or something.

Is it tuned to lock up at WOT? It isn't from the factory.

Sounds like a third gear problem.
If you have a 3.23 rear and stock size tires it should be at approx 4600 rpm at 100 mph in 3rd. It sounds like it's sliding into third gear.

It could be a million things, even engine fueling.

Theres not any chance you still have torque management is there?

Here tell me what you think of this. Here is our email conversation.

Me- Hey Bryan you did my retune a cuple months ago. I got it retuned because I got the new circle d 3400 stall. I have a question. When I stomp it WOT every now and than at 100mph the rpms drop from 5000 to 4800. It feels like a little shift. Could this be where the wot lockup is set on my tune? Any ideas?

Bryan@pcmforless.comm says- Yes, that is the WOT lockup MPH, it helps you get a bit extra MPH in your 1/4 mile time.
thanks,
Bryan

I don't get it. You say you have a problem that feels like the converter locking or something and you know it is the converter locking.

Did Circle D build the converter to lock up at WOT? Chris told me that my 3C should not be allowed to drop 1000 rpm during normal cruise. That means don't let it lock up at WOT.

You might want to check with circle d on the wot lock up, not recommended with your converter from what they told me. I see you have a single disc 2C https://ls1tech.com/forums/automatic...e-d-today.html

Anyway, depending on your rear gear and tire size, heres the math:
Unlocked 3.23 x 355 x 100 / 24.91 = 4603 rpm
Locked l 3.23 x 336 x 100 / 24.91 = 4356 rpm

Thats a 247 rpm difference.

I just got that email right after you posted like 10 mins ago lol. So should I have him take it off where he has it locking the converter? I don't get how he says this gets me more mph in the 1/4 mile?

I don't know, ask Circle D if it's ok. One or two mph is not worth beating up the converter IMO. But on the other hand a 200 to 300 rpm drop doesn't seem like much, even at WOT.

Not a good idea to lock the single disk at WOT. It will eventually take out the clutch. You need to get it retuned. Glad you got the problem figured out though.....

How fast will it take out the clutch? How much time do I have to get it retuned? I was planing on taking it to the track this friday. Should I not?

Exactly what Circle D said. If you have a single disc you will eventually wear out your clutch.. I love when I lock mine up. It feels like I just hit it with a 50 shot of nitrous and starts pulling even harder.. My converter (not Circle D) is a multi disc to handle the lockups though.. Heres a vid of my car at the track. You can hear my converter lock up at 95mph, which is 3rd gear.. You should be fine to run your car at the track Friday.. On side note, locking your converter at WOT can be bad on your tranny as well if its completely stock. Talk to Circle D somemore and see what they tell you about lockups being bad on the trans and about running this Friday. Again IMO you should be fine..
