Auto tranny swap from 02 V6 Firebird to 98 V6 Camaro?
Hi all,
I own a 98 Camaro V6 3.8 Auto where I managed to trash the transmission in the snow!!! I didn’t realise these trannys were so sensitive!!
Anyway, I need to replace it with a used tranny and being based in the UK parts like this are hard to come by. To increase my choice of trannys I wondered if the tranny from a 98-02 Pontiac Firebird V6 Auto would fit without mods needing done? I already tried a 97 Camaro tranny which had a split belhousing, where mine is the one piece belhousing and it wouldn’t fit, so had to return it. If someone could tell me for sure that the Firebird tranny will fit straight on that would be cool. I may have the chance of an auto tranny from an 02 V6 Firebird with low mileage from a dismantlers, but it is non refundable!
Regards
DS

I assume the Transam is a typo being the V8 engine!
Good to know I can do a direct swap, but still a little concerned that they may have changed something in the electrics between 98 and 02!

My only concern now from what I've read is that if any of the electricals are different when it comes to connecting the tranny up.
From what I've read so far, the US scrapyards have all this info as its their business. I've tried getting in touch with a few but no joy! If anyone can take the time to check with their local scrappie to make sure that nothing has changed in the electrical side and that both are truly 100% compatible I would be willing to pay for the info via Paypal or something, I have a lot of money (and stress from the wife) riding on this.
