I think a big reason people scream Circle D/Yank on here is because they are the most active posters and push their products the most. That and they're obviously great stalls. At the same time FTI is just as good as a Yank/Circle D and I wouldn't hesitate in picking one up. Greg @ FTI is great guy and I would definitely recommend picking one up.

To me , the biggest thing about Circle-D converters is there Multi Disk, It will hold under extreme loads, like FI & nitrous . I lock my Circle-D 4L80 C4 converter after i shift to second gear under nitrous and don't unlock till i hit the finish line. There a very few converter companys out there that can say " try to blow it " Thats what i was told. I tryed and cant do it with what i have. Thats what sold me on the Circle -D

When you go FMVB you still use over drive? L80s can hold on nitros from 3er to 4 th at full throtle? How much i have to invest to make it FMVB and trans brake?
I have a Power glide ready to be modified but now i don't know if i going to look deep on the 4l80e.

Yes.

3rd definitely, for 4th, it depends on the power and what year model internals that are in it (earlier models are stronger). I'd say the OD section could be built to hole 900rwhp WOT 3-4 shifts.

Depends on if you go with the transgo-3 kit or Jake's Performance has a box that allows the full auto valvebody to be full manual. But why not let the PCM control it?

Default LS6427 / FTI recommended

OK, could not stand it no more. Drove over to FTI and met Greg and he was assembling conv. but, immediately gave me a tour through the shop. Everything is custom built, not box shelved. Explained where and why converters fail and their process compared to others(which I will not mention here). It makes sense once you can see the internals. Great guy to talk to. LS6427 at least give this guy a call on your converter selection.

Cool, I will. Haden;'t even really started thinking about a converter. It'll only need to perform best from 40-50mph starts up to about 170-180mph.

So I'm open to talk to a few companies. It'll have about 850-880 RWHP on the spray, so multi-disc would be preferred.

I am thinking to swap from 4L60E to 4L80E in future. I've done a search and read long threads. It's 1999 A4 Camaro.

I want to verify things if someone can confirm to me.

I need a 4L80E with corssmember for F-body from BMR.
I need harness adapter from Speartech.
I need HP Tuner download 4L80E file.
I need a Yoke for TH400 or 4L80E.
I need lokar Dipstick.

Q:
Do I need different length DS? or stock will work?
Do I need to hammer the trans tunnel
Is stock shifter going to work with 4L80E?
What TC will work? Will stock with adapter work? Because I have stalled multi disc TC for 4L60E.

Did I miss anything?

The engine is stock for now but I have S91 turbo kit that's going to be installed with different engine.

My stock drive shaft worked fine, once changed to the proper yoke and u-joint on the transmission side.

I do not remember hammering the trans tunnel, but there is a rib you need to notch to clear the wire harness plug. We also had to cut two wings off the transmission bellhousing.

Stock shifter works fine, just needed to adjust the cable.

I went to a 4k stall when I went to the 80e, Pretty sure they are not interchangable.

Thanx for sharing. Does anyone sell a 4L80E conversion kit (for the dummies)? I know Speed Engineering used to but not anymore.

Also, does it need different flexplate?

I used my stock flexplate also, because I read too many conflicting stories about which after market one to go with. I did not want to delay the install with the wrong parts. Once I rebuild my motor though I am going to upgrade the flex plate since I also run a stall.

No kit I am aware of, but its not that bad really. With 3 people and a car lift we did the swap in a couple of hours.

When going to 4L80 from T56, what do I need to do for the shifter? Can I source stock 4l60 shifter from auto f-body? I prefer to keep stockish look, no aluminium constructions between seats...

Stock shifter will work just fine. As stated earlier elongate one of the mounting holes on the bracket that bolts the cable to the trans. You'll realize how easy it is when you get to it.

So I would need the shifter, cable, and tranny cable bracket from 4L60 camaro or f-body?
Do I need whole center console as well?
Sorry for so many questions, it's because I don't know of any auto LS1 f-body in my area

Jake's Performance can get you everything needed to swap a 4L80E. Give them a call and talk to Cody or Jake and they can give you an estimate for a taylored 80 kit..

I need to stop bsing and get my car to Jakes for my 80 install. The trans is sitting there complete and ready just waiting on me to bring my car. Sounds like the 80 was the perfect choice.
