Output shaft loose? Help me out.
I was replaceing the rear seal on the tailshaft of my transmission and noticed that if you grab the output shaft itself it will move around a little bit. Is it supposed to do this? I do get some vibration that I have been wondering where it is coming from.

Yes its normal the yoke and bushing in the tail house support the shaft so it will move when yoke is out

A degree of movement is ok however if it is excessive I would suspect worn bushings or a unit that has a ton of end play. With the way I build my units there is very little wiggle here so not knowing the history of the unit I would be concerned due to the fact you have a vibration. Vince Bielanski

True if its excessive I actually had a guy several years ago with a OEM trans he had a chronic vibration since he bought the car , From apearance the trans had never been out . Well it actually did not have a case bushing in the rear at all and no sign one had ever been there car had 20000 miles on it.

It is not necessarily exesive, but I'm going to get back under the car and try to check my flywheel for cracks etc. I've heard a lot that the flywheels have been known to at least crack on stock power and I do have 135000 miles on the car. I have noticed a slight "bump" when it shifts sometimes still, mostly when not applying the gas pedal much, it doesn't seem to do that when I give it half or all out on the throttle.
