700R4 reluctor ring replacement I have a 1990 Suburban R1500 and I replaced the transmission with a used tranny from a ???. The original had a reluctor ring type speed sensor and the replacement has a plastic gear driven (green). The connector on the wiring harness fits, but the speedometer and cruise control does not work.
Am I correct in assuming that this is due to the different type of signal?

I would agree that yes your issue has to do with the different style drive gears you mentioned. Normally I would use a press to remove and reinstall this part. In your case you will need a puller to remove it and then you will be forced to pound it on the other shaft. I'm personally not a fan of this procedure for the reinstall of the reluctor. Reason being is you run the risk of damaging one of the internal bearings or washers. What I would do is heat the part with a torch to expand it and then slide it back on or tap with it a hammer until it is in the correct location. Keep in mind that the reluctor needs to be in the center of the opening for the vss sensor as much as possible. HTH Vince
