4L60e question about shift kit Ok heres the deal im buying a 4L60e off a buddy of mine for 300 bucks only 30k or so miles on it came off a lt1 cadi and im wondering if i put a shift kit will it even matter because i know it shifts faster but im the type of guy that messes with the gears.......so im already getting a better cooler and using my old 2800 stall for now what do you all think just put the tranny in as is or put the shift kit cuz it seems that last time it over heated and my 3rd and 4th gave out cuz of the shift kit

so whats your imput My experience with shift kits has been that they ruin the trans faster. If you want it to last you must ave it built. If not and the internals and bands are still good, keep it cool and keep good fluid in it. Dexlll is still the best IMO since it has less friction modifiers.

Well with a stall it was my understanding that you should install a shift kit because the high stall speed will cause the clutch plates more wear. A shift kit, in theory i guess, should help increase the life of the clutches with a higher stall due to faster shifts. That's what I've always been led to believe and it makes sense if you think about it. Your stall is only a 2800 but its still higher than stock. So I would install one if it were me.

Just up the line pressure through the ecu including the tc clutch line pressure which youll have to do anyway with an aftermarket tc. Its called TransGo cuz thats what happens, the trans gos. Ask any real hi-perf trans shop and they dont touch shift kits.

How did you determine the shift kit caused the failure?
And your going to use your old converter with the garbage from the burned up 3-4 clutch in the new transmission. That way you can say high stall converters cause transmission failure when it was actually all the garbage in it.

When the TransGo Shift kit is installed correctly, will not harm the transmission. I have used the TransGo setup and I modify them to do even more, and I have hundreds of them out there in 4L60E transmissions that I have built over the years, and many more in units that the customer built using my kits that are doing fine. Raising line pressure through the ecu will raise it at part to medium throttle openings, but will not change the WOT pressure. In other words it will firm up part throttle shifts and not much more. The kit can do much more than just increase line pressure (firming up part throttle shifts). It can speed up 3-2 downshift, increase the volume of oil to the band/clutches for more holding power, quicken the time of the shifts, and when setup right can give you smooth part throttle shifts and quick WOT shifts, etc. Some of the top builders that I know use the Transgo setup in some form or another. The only thing in the kit that I do not like and I remove it from my kits and tell others never to use it, are the 2nd gear accumulator spacers. These do nothing but make the 1-2 shift firmer at part throttle which is hard on the entire gear train.
