I would like to install the sender for my auto meter gauge into the actual cooler line leaving the trans, like some sort of actual adapter fitting for 1/4npt that is actually about a inch deep to screw the sendering into? any help

I used one on-line on my Jeep. Brass t fitting with compression fittings. I just took the sending unit, electronic, in to napa and got what I needed. Mine seems to always have a small drip though no matter what. I went with one in the pan for my Firebird though. Much better in my opinion.

 

Reading temps going through the cooler lines is a waste IMO. The pan gives you the best average temp of the fluid. And you cant tap the stock pan. You'd have to have an after-market aluminum one for that.

 

Not true, I used a drain plug install kit to mount mine in the stock pan. You will need to run an 1/8" npt tap through it. I did that until I can get my cast pan done.

 

My vote if for right in the Pan. Thats where I have mine and its going to give you the most accurate reading IMO.
