Might want to add something about misfire detection as part of the tuning. Some people get random converter unlocking unless they raise or disable misfire detection. Something with the smaller converters different rotating mass.

Excellent work!!
What about the "Shift time" table? Doesn't reducing this table quicken up the shifts? And if you zero it out, does it basically cancel out the adaptive shift learn mechanism?

I'll have to dig up some research on that. I've noticed its mostly an LS1 Fbody issue. Doesn't seem to affect GTOs or later PCMs as far as I've researched.

As far as I know, GM LSx cars with the 4LxxE series dont utilize TAP. Heres some info I dug up:

I second this. I just finished a TC swap and my converter would lock and unlock constantly going down the interstate.

I was logging a ton of engine misfires so I went into the Engine Diag > Misfire and opened the "Low RPM", "Medium RPM" and "High RPM" tables. All the cells except for some in the "Medium RPM" table were set to the max of 32767.

What I did was increase the minimum threshold for recording misfires to 2000. To do this, I took all cells in the "Medium RPM" table with values under 2000 and set them to 2000.

I had a bad feeling about disabling misfire detection completely so this seemed like a good comprimise. After doing this I lockup right where want and unlock where I want.

Default Rebuilt 4L60E has 2-3 shift hesitation

This thread seems to be the answer to my trans tuning issues. Luckily I have someone to do this for me, so I would like to ask a specific question about it:

I have a high performance rebuilt 4L60E, 3500 stall, Transgo shiftkit. With a hard enough shift 1-2, the transmission will hesitate shifting 2-3 and bounce the rev limiter, then shift.

Having the trans tuned to shift at 5500 rpm, rev limit at 6500, 2-3 will function as programmed with a soft 1-2. However, on fresh pavement or at the track where 1-2 reaches a certain shifting pressure threashhold, it will pass 5500, climb to 6500, bounce the rev limiter, then shift 2-3. Any ideas that I can pass on to him?

Sounds like shift MPH on the second gear could be off. If you bang out at lower RPM in first you'll reach 2nd at a slower MPH which could be the area that the current tune is set for. If you hit a race level shift RPM in first you'll be powering into second faster (MPH wise) and it could be enough to throw the MPH tune setting off.

This happens to me at the track when its SUPER cold out and there is a good deal more power. On my best run last year (11.74) the DA was -74 (38*F) and my car was moving much faster MPH wise to the given RPM so I bounced off the 1-2 limiter screwing the run. When its warmer, say +2,000 DA (80*F), my 11.80s come perfect with dead on shifting on the same tune. This also happens to my trans builder. Make sure to target a 3-4 MPH before actual window. Meaning if your doing 80MPH at 6,500 in 2nd, you want your shift MPH to be around 76-77 and let the RPM be the trigger for the shift.

THIS IS AWESOME!

So, making your converter never lock-up when the car is in 3rd doesn't cause any mechanical issues? Wouldn't it cause extra heat if the car is constantly cruising at too high of speeds without the converter being locked?

I'd imagine if you're cruising at a good speed the car will already be in fourth, and possibly locked.

I agree, great write up. I will have to sift through it again this weekend and work on mine. I'm struggling with 2-3 shift and a converter that's slipping a lot. A quick look at my tune, suggests its the PWM for the converter, not quite sure on the shift right now.

Only if you are cruising around in 3rd gear a lot at speeds that you would normally be in 4th. I (and GM) have the 4th gear shift setup early enough that a 3rd gear lockup isn't needed unless your town is all 25MPH zones and you obey them.

I know this is old but damn what an awesome thread. Thanks so much for the info. Im a new want to be tuner and was having an issue at the track only last year of the 3-4 shift bouncing the limiter. I now have a bunch of things to check over.

This thread is packed full of very good information. It has definitely helped me vastly in my learning curve for HPtuner. However, HP has changed their layout enough that not all the options are there. Does anyone have any input on how to adjust certain aspects you are no longer able to access? Mainly the Auto TCC and Torque management have changed. Or maybe they have moved to a new location? I have version 3.0.8.

Man this is what i needed! Great sticky with great pictures! Trying to sort out my built 4l60e with shift kit and c5 servo with a 3800 stall with a turboed ls1. Trying to figure out the right place for it to shift and actually shift properly. It seems like it just wants to rev and not shift until i lift a bit. Havnt banged on the 6000rpm limit thats set, but its scared me reving that high. This also made me realize that my mph and rpm are not quite the same as what is being displayed in the dash, leading me to be leave my speedo hasnt been calibrated by the first tuner. Looks like another fix for me to do lol

Default Trans Lockup

Coolaid, I have 2005 GTO with a built 370 LS2 and have 4000 yank converter. I am trying to tune my lockup and release.

I want it set at 58 lock and 57 unlock through 0-25 throttle%

I have that done with it being at 58 lockup what would you recommend for the mph for 31-50 throttle position% on apply.

anyway you can email me rpruitt1182@live.com
