Default 4l60e 3/4 problem

im probably posting something that has been posted a thousand times before but i dont feel like looking threw a thousand posts to find the right one. i was driving my 1997 firebird formula home the other night. i was jus cruising down the highway everything was fine and had been fine for quite awhile so i go to put in cruise i was doing about 65 the rpms were around 2500 im not sure exactly but i can get the exact number if needed. so i turn on the cruise and my rpms jump up to about 4700 maybe pushing 5 grand so i hit the brake and put my foot back on the pedal and im doing the same speed i was but my rpms dropped. so i try again and it does the same thing. so i stop and try to manually go through the gears. i put it in 2 bc thats as low as mine goes. starts off normal shifts into second good wait for the rpms to build so i try to shift into 3 and no change so i put it into D no change. the girl i bought the car from said the trans was rebulit a while back not really sure if she was telling the truth or not or if the shop that rebuilt it was honest . i really dont want to pull the trans bc this will be the fourth time having to drop the k member and im really getting tired of doing this . so if you have any ideas it will be greatly appreciated. thanks

I had the same thing happen to me. If it's the same problem soon it will happen to your 2/3 shift aswell. I tried putting additive to my oil to stop the slipping but You're better off pulling it now than later. I have to get mine rebuilt or buy a new one.

Your saying it only shifts as far as second but when its time for 3rd it just does not shift but does not neutral either? I would scan for codes first.

Rebuild or buy used but beware - you don't know what you are really buying.
