Default What is the advantage

What is the advantage or disadvantage of putting in a 4l60e in my 81trans am conversion instead of leaving the t350 . Seems leaving the stock trans would eliminate a new drive shaft, computer box for speedo, and cross member mod.

Highway cruising overdrive and neck snapping first gear are the advantage.
Disadvantages would probably be cost for rebuilding.

Many advantages, although because of cost you don't see many people installing a 4l60e over a 700r4.

3.08 fist gear ratio.
30% overdrive for lower rpm@highway speeds
the ability to control shift firmness/shift rpm electronically for exact shift timing is also a nice feature.
Your driveshaft can be shortened/rather than replaced.
They make a tailhousing kit with a reluctor ring and a conventional speedometer gears.
The also sell a shifter conversion kit.
Expensive project, but with the right parts the performance & driveability are outstanding.
