Default can you shorten 3/4 apply ring on a 4l65e

Like the title says... can you shorten the apply ring to fit more clutcks and steels in? I already have the newer shorter one. The transmission is a 4l65e in a silverado ss.

I think the issue you will get with trying to shorten it is that it will bend. To be honest I think getting the hd apply plate with the thinnest pressure plate is your best option. Also if you machine it down you are only looking at maybe .020 or so more room unless you start machining the drum down some as well. At which point I think the snap ring groove for the forward clutch will be weakened. Vince

Thanks Vince, I'm trying some different ideas for the 3/4 clutch. Has anyone machined the apply plate thinner?

Years ago I machined them down to .190 before 4l65E frictions were available. Personally I would not go much thinner than that.
