My only worry about a stall is that after my gear swap, it's alot harder to launch from a stop on street tires (DD).I'm refering to launch as a redlight/stop sign kinda launch, no track. If I 3600 stall it, I worry that I won't be able to reap the benifits from a stop, only a roll, is this a typical problem or no?

When I bought the car it had new corvette rims and tires, so I don't plan on slicks for a couple more years. So on a dd with street tires how is a stall gonna work? This is what I have trouble understanding. Seeing as no one around here has a stalled ls1 for me to ride in makes this decision difficult.

With a 3600 converter, gears, and street tires you will not hook from a stop.

^ even with the mts I can still spin them with the 3600 and stock 3.23s.
With street tires...its just a rubber roast.

Street tires and stall = EPIC fail... I roll right through 3rd like its not there.. If you are only street racing from a dig a stall isn't for you.. or maybe a smaller stall like a 2800 might work..

The class I have been racing in this season requires street tires though and there are only two more races in the season so I am going to try and "doctor" a set of old street tires and see if I can hook with them.. Next year I will bump up in class and run a set of M/T's

I know it's said a stall should be one of the first upgrades for an auto..I can see that, for racing application (rear end, slicks, built transmission, all other boltons).
Still, I've read so many that opt for stalls on dds. I can't see how you can utilize a stall for dd, which includes lots of slower city driving, red light action and occasional highway runs (which then I could see having fun with it). WOT looks great if you can hook.
I still have my LTs, TDs and ls6 to do this fall, I keep thinking of doing a stall, but it keeps getting pushed back.

That's funny but, true. You'll get bitched at either way. Ask=catch hell before and after. Just do it=catch hell only after the fact. Listen to me and i"ll get everyone in trouble! LOL

You can have a stall on the street that is really tight and act like stock most of the time. Trust me you wont regret it if you get a quality one. Make sure you tell the builder your concerns about driving style and they will customize for you. This is one thing you don't want to go cheap on.

Not trying to cut you down here as I understand you are trying to learn. But I can tell by your rationale you have never owned or driven a stalled auto. A lot of times you can hook from a low roll on the street and from speed your car is quicker. You have an advantage over a stock stall everywhere. And that's why autos need aftermarket converters.

I'm going to the track this Friday and will have new times to post.. A local (reputable) tuner said that until I can get the cam swap done and let him do a full dyno tune he could throw a generic tranny tune on it for the stall so other than that I will be getting new times with a stall only.. running on the same tires as my last times.. Car ran 8.3X's before the stall almost every pass.. Had a best of an 8.29 which I never repeated..

Mods then were Lid, LT's, ORY, Borla, Trans-Go shift kit, 3.42's.. Only new mods will be PerformaBuilt 4k stall and tranny tune...

Just FYI.. I STRONGLY suggest getting a tune after a stall.. The shifts are SO much better.. Lock up acts alot better.. the car as a whole acts alot better!!!

It has the same style lock up clutch your factory converter has.

That means once it engages (35-45mph depending on the tune) it will act just like stock.

Your RPM's will not be any higher on the freeway with an aftermarket converter with a 4L60E.

Try leaving in 2nd gear.

No I'm not kidding either.

Just keep an eye on the trans temps.
