4L60 2nd gear shudder
Ok heres whats going on. When Im cruising in OD around 60mph or so and floor it, it down shifts into 2nd gear. It pulls hard until around 5500rpm then has 1 hard shudder(almost like the converter unlocks or it shifts for another gear) then pulls hard until the 3rd gear shift. All the shifts 1st>2nd>3rd are pretty firm so i know the trans isnt slipping. Any ideas what this could be?

That would be your input sprag assembly not holding. It is releasing and grabbing, which is not a good thing.
If you're going to roll race at highway speeds, this is one of the issues that will come up. The best way to protect that sprag from slipping is to move the shifter to the 3 position, then go to WOT. This will bring on the overruning clutch which in turn will take the load off of the sprag. However, that overruning clutch is about 5 inches in diameter and there are only 2 clutch discs. Just an fyi...

Thanks Gilbert, So its best to just not run it WOT from a 60 roll. Is this happening a sign of the trans letting go? Or should it be ok aslong as I run from low rolls or digs only?
