The stock bell housings on the th400 are really weak, it has to do with the casting. Good thing it broke along the edge where you cut to put a SFI bell housing on.

What build it? Ya man 400's are a breeze if someonewalks u threw one or two of them. I have problems with end play clearances on the clutches and input shaft whatnots. But had a case that had a damaged bell housing from a mud truck so I took a cutoff wheel and cut the rest of the housing off. Then went and got some grade a bolts to mount the bell on. I did have a 6 bolt pump in the old trans and the new one was a 8 bolt, but I just drilled new holes and made it work.

Man these trans are really easy to tear dow and rebuild as long as you have someone to call and ask a tupid question to about it.

Damn good job. I was going to rebuild my 400 when the clutches went but my builder only charges 250 for labor so to me that's worth the price of aggravation lol. But I may try one.

blingole, usually a bad vibration (flywheel/drive shaft) causes breakage like that.
Either that or improper drive shaft length or to much flex in your chassis. A solid mount with a twisting chassis will do it.
As far as the strength of a stock bell housing goes, its not the cause of your problem.
The hub on your converter will most likely have excessive run out from your failure.
Have it checked.

i already reinstalled it and it seems to be fine. I actually ran the best time ever with it since then. But honestly, ive had some "issues" with the company i bought the convertor from and i feel like i should send it to FTI to be looked over.

Now after what you just mentioned i think your right. Ill have it checked soon.
