Troubleshooting 4L60E, no R,2 or 4. Mechanical or Electronic?
Hey there! My name is Kyle. I'm new to the LS1 forums, but I have been finding great information so far. Anyway, I need some ideas from some more experienced mechanics. I have a '98 Suburban 5.7 with a 4L60E transmission. The only problem is it will not shift into R, 2 or 4. I have 1st and 3rd. It will shift from 1st at around 2500 RPMs, but only into 3rd.
When I did an OBD, a P0751 code appeared. Since then, I've replaced both shift solenoids 1- 2 and 2- 3, or A and B as I know them. They appeared identical and I assumed that their valve patterns were electronically programmed. After disconnecting the battery, reconnecting it, flushing and replacing the fluid, I came to find that the problem was not resolved.
I did another OBD, and a P0404 EGR code popped up. I'm not sure if an EGR vacuum line leak would be causing transmission shift issues. This is leading me to believe that this may be more than a solenoid issue. Any thoughts, ideas and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Kyle

sounds like the sunshell broke. you can watch where its commanded if you have a scanner with a data menu. but usually when you loose reverse its mechanical, and theres a tsb about 2,4, and R because of the shell cracking
