Default will an older 4l60e work in an 02

My friend has a 99 4l60e out of a tahoe. It had a 350 vortec in front of it so it is not an lsx style tranny. Its a free tranny.
Will this work behind an lsx engine?
Will it bolt up?
Will the wiring from a 99 truck or fbody and 02 truck harnessvwork with it?
If it can what else do i need for this to make work?

A 1998-02 2wd Truck Trans will work with a F-body, all you have to do is swap the Linkage Arm and the Tail Shaft Housing if your Torque Arm still bolts to it.

Why only 98 -02 trucks? I dont understand could you explain?
On trucks isnt a 98 the one piece tranny and 99 the ls style tranny as 99 was the first year for the lsx engines in trucks. What year tahoe trannys fit? Im not swapping a tranny into an fbody. I am looking for one to bolt up and use the factory harness with for my swap. I did ask on the conversion section and got no replys.

You need the ls1 bellhousing and 98 has the removeable one. Most all have the same connector. My trans came from a 98 tahoe and is being bolted to my 6.0 with a lsx bellhousing swap

If this came out of a 99, it should have the removable one then. But i dont think it is two piece, maybe its not a 99 tranny. So you couldnt use a non removable bell housing tranny? Like a 96 model? What wont work?

OK I can see and understand that. But can it be used on lsx engines? Anyone know?

Only if you swap the bellhousing.

This bellhousing or trans is one piece. Not two piece like an lsx tranny. I thought i read somewhere or some sight you could.

Whats with all this BS info

You need the 4L80E adapter placed between the flexplate and converter for the nub to ride on. Thats it. $50 from most dealerships new

Tailhousing is the 4 bolt version, so anything from a 3rd gen equipped with a 700R4 or LT1 style 4th gen with a 4L60E will bolt right up

Wiring will plug in exactly the same, mounts the same, TA mount can be adapted or simply buy one from an older car

GM hasn't change the bolt pattern in 100 years (or something like that). Look at the tranny first. We tried to put a 4l60e in my buddy's 2000 blazer from an 02 trans am. it didn't work. the input shafts are different, so it has to use a different converter. The ls1 converter is 1/4 inch longer so it wouldn't bolt up. The connectors are the same. Not saying you will have this problem but something to watch out for. If you need pics of the input shafts I can get one of the ls style if it will help.

LSx converters have a slightly longer nub on the converter. Older tranny use a shorter nub, this is why the adapter was created, to keep the converter supported and centered

To use an older trans on a LSx engine, you need the adapter. This classifies as older but has the added bonus of everything else imaginable being identical

So what would I need to get a newer style behind a 4.3.

1994 4l60e is all by itself
1995 4l60e is all by itself
1996-2000 behind a 4.3,5.0,5.7 are by them self. All should have a removable bell housing with a 280mm or so stator with a different torque converter.
98-02 f-bodys and silverado trucks with ls series engines have 300mm stator support and different style torque converters. Bell housing is different.Different input drum.

Most 1996 and newer should have a external neutral safety.

"So what would I need to get a newer style behind a 4.3."
get a 1996-00 bell housing, 280mm front pmw pump and or stator. different input drum. I know there are easier ways but to me this is the right way.
