Hey guys
Came to this forum because i figured you guys would have the best knowledge regarding these transmissions and what the power limitations are...I currently have a 03 sierra ecsb pickup so I spend alot of time on performance trucks, so I do know that these tranny's do not like big power. Anyways this question is not regarding my truck, I have 78 Trans Am that I may want to put a 700r4 or 4l60 in. I have a fresh th350 built by coan that I was planning on putting in, but as gas prices continue to increase, the idea of an o.d tranny becomes more appealing. The tranny will be going behind a 474 pontiac thats not making huge numbers 600/600, but from what i understand the torque is what kills these trannys, and im putting 450ftlbs at 2500 rpms. Im sure its duable to have one of these survive, but is it going to cost me an arm and leg to do it? And if you guys have any recomendations on a repitable builder let me know?
Thanks Mike

Ideally, since its going to make a good amount of power, and be in a somewhat heavy car, I dont think the 700r4/4L60 will be what you need. For reliability, youll probably want to look at something stronger.
If it were me, Id be considering something along the lines of a 4L80e, since its basically a Th400 with an overdrive.

Hey thanks for reply
Is the 4l80 bigger, because i know that with a 700r4 it is possible to fit in 78fbody trans tunnel, but not sure about 4l80. Would a stock 4l80 be stong enough or is a rebuild needed also
Thanks
Mike
