Engine done..Need a converter who should I go to to spec something
My engine is done and now I need a converter so I can put the engine in the car. I have dealt with Coan Racing for awhile now but I don't know how there converters are going to be with my setup. The last time I talked to them about an EFI car, they spec'd out a 2800 converter and when I yanked it out and threw in a 4000 stall it was faster on motor and N/A.
I have been leaning towards Circle D or FTI for my car but I see that Yank is the choice for alot of street guys. I just want to make sure that I get somebody that knows what I want out of my car and not spec me something just to get my money.
Coan has done me good on all the transmissions I have bought from them over the years and I have a nitrous converter from them that is a bad *** converter. It has worked flawlessly but it is for a carb'd small block. I don't think they take in consideration of the weight of the street cars I have built.
So, basically I just need a few of you guys to recommend me a good converter company that is going to give me what I need.
I put this in the nitrous section also since I will be spraying a hefty amount

Go with FTI. They are really great to work with. I talked with Greg to spec mine out and he answered all of my questions without making me feel like a dumb ***! (even though he knew I was when it comes to converters)
Just to give a little info about my setup it is a 416 LS3 PRC L92 heads, Cam Spec'd by Geoff at EPS and its got a Fast 102 intake on it with a Nitrous Outlet direct port and a Nitrous outlet 102 plate on the front. It has a TH350 trans
That's a pretty rowdy combination. I would suggest giving Chris or Greg a call. Both guys are on top of their game and both push the envelope.
I would be concerned about the 350 being able to survive long term in that car. I'm guessing the motor makes somewhere between 450 and 500 n/a. The direct port is probably a 200-250 shot and the nozzle is around 150. That's asking a lot from a th350.

I am sure " Chris or Greg " are great at specing out the correct TC you need.
Dave with Yank has twice did very good when specing both a ST 3600/2.3 and a SS 4000/?? and both did as planed
just my .02s Johnny

That's more like 600+ @ the flywheel with that combo on motor. He probably isn't spraying more than 250 total with those L92 heads, but, you are right, that TH350 is on borrowed time depending on the build and vehicle weight.

What's most important is to speak to a few builders and go with that guy you feel like you can work with long term. Relationships are everything.

Don't discredit these TH350's we have a kitchen table built one that is sitting behind a 565 flywheel hp small block that gulps down a 300 shot. It runs like a bat out of hell.
id go with a FTI just ordered my second billet converter from them. First one was a bolt on full weight lt1 with 3.23 gear cuts consistent 1.68 60's. I just ordered a 4000 for my ls1 hoping to get in the 1.5's
That's just who I went with. They called me and told me what I needed and why I needed it. He told me "you will not break this converter and it will only need adjustments, so it will be the only converter you will have to buy" and i was sold because I only like buying things once, even though it might cost more.
