On an F-car...? You don't have to remove the intake, but unclipping/unhooking the air lid would help.

With solid motor mounts the motor won't drop at all. I would not recommend forcing it either. You need to drop the k member 6-8 inches to gain clearance to clearly get to the bellhousing bolts.

Loosening the bolts will not work either. Been there, done that. To drop the k, take the sway bar, front shocks, and steering shaft loose and support the body. K will drop with 6 bolts.

You just need to drop the k member bolts enough to let it tilt.
Then you can get at it with a few extensions and a wobble...
I've had mine in and out a few times with no issues.

I find it easier to remove the intake to get to them.

I haven't tried removing the intake, but dropping the k-member some isn't too tough, it's just loosening some easily accessible bolts. I tried loosening the bolts on the motor mounts and when that didn't work I loosened the pedistal mounts. Didn't get me anywhere. Soon as I dropped the k-member a few inches I was golden.
