This is just some curiousity DJFury05 but have you ever owned a transmission from him, or are you just jumping the bad wagon because of reviews? Everyone makes mistakes man and EVERYTHING will fail eventually theres no way around it, also once a transmission leaves his hands nobody but the person knows how its taken care of. If you have owned one then ok you have a right to speak your anger but damn man you throw him under the bus everytime someone mentions his name.

As for me i have a Mad dog level 4 stage 3 4l60E with a yank 3200 stall have had it for 2 years, maybe a little more, make a little over 600hp and mid 5's tq on nitrous and run 10's. Never once had a problem with it. Yes i personally know people that have had problems with his transmissions, but from my experience its been nothing but good, got it in a quick professional manner and has been strong through everything.

My cousins has been running a stage 3 4l60e from mad dog on his 550hp camaro for a few years now. Last year the tranny line blew (just bad luck) and the shop he went to didn't fill the tranny fluid back up. Without knowing this he drove the car and when it started slipping he had it checked out. The tranny was shot and of course the shop that screwed him claimed they did everything right. My cousin sent the tranny to be warrantied and had it back a week earlier than expected. It has been running strong ever since. I would recomend mad dog lou to anyone of my friends looking to upgrade their tranny

I installed one of Lou's level 2 700-r4 transmissions into a customers third gen Camaro a few years ago. The car wasn't a huge powered car, maybe 375rwhp. Was the first i ever heard of Mad Dawg but the transmission surprised me. Shifted well and that young kid kicked the crap out of that car every chance he had, stoplight to stoplight, every open track day. It lived the three years until he wrapped the car around a tree.

I have never personally purchased a transmission from him, no. I am smarter than that. Unfortunately, my roommate was not. He bought a TH400 from him and has had nothing but problems with the trans and and is still suffering from it. Even with Lou sending a different trans and converter it still has problems apparently. Lou finally accepted to take the trans back and give a refund as far as I'm aware but I am not up to date on the situation as I moved away and don't keep in contact everyday. There are threads of the matter on here though. So no I am not speaking just based off random reviews online and jumping on the bandwagon here. I warned my roommate not to buy one from him based off a simple Google search showing all the bad reviews and shady **** going on with his company(s) but he wanted to save money so he went with it.

Agreed. I have always respected him in that aspect. It does appear his company is moving in a better direction now.

Default **UPDATE** Free transmission give away

A Mad Dog Congrats goes out to Dan Watkins on his TH400 transmission which is rated to handle up to 1200HP. And we are also standing behind this unit with a (1) ONE YEAR UNLIMITED MILE WARRANTY, which in the race industry, most manufacturers only give out 90 days for racing applications. We decided to participate in this give away because we stand behind a quality product and we are passionate about producing a high performance item for the high performance enthusiast... So being a first time winner, the best thing to have one was an ORIGINAL MAD DOG Transmission. Please stay updated for future posting from Dan Watkins on his TH400.

Thanks,
MadDog Lou

I appreciate all the positive feedback. Yes we are on top of our game I watched everything that goes on in my shop now. We test every single transmission here to make sure it has quality shifts, no delayed engagements, no vibrations, etc. I understand things happen sometimes, whether it's on our end, or our customers and one thing for sure. We always back up our transmissions 100%. I have been in business for 27 years not planning on going anywhere. At least for another 15 years or more. My plan would be to have my son run the shop like my father done.

Thank You,
"Mad Dog" Lou

Default Satisfied Cusotmer

I bought my 1972 Chevelle this past summer. It was my dream come true to own a car like this again. I loved my car but I didn't love its performance on the road. My transmission was built for top end speed and I wanted my car to perform better on the bottom end. There is nothing better than taking off and burning tires and feeling the power of the car. I searched online and found Mad Dog transmissions. Now I LOVE everything about my car. I spoke with the staff at Mad Dog and they gave me exactly what I wanted. They were excellent to deal with and they even sent my transmission all the way to Newfoundland, Canada. I am a 100% satisfied customer. Thank you Mad Dog.

I joined here a little while ago and posted asking for help on a build for my 98 Z28. I got the car with some problems like every used car. I got some help from a few people who posted their builds on here. I have been upgrading my car little by little. Then the real problems. The trans went out on my car due to a 3600 stall torque converter fail and shot slivers through my STOCK 4l60E. I went to a few shops in town and they want anywhere from 1600 to 2500 depending on the hp its made to handle.

My car was a show car and was sponsored by zano (think this is misspelled) car polish and a few other companies from the previous owner. It still has the one of the stickers on it and the previous owner had tons of pic of the car in shows. The engine was stripped and all performance parts went back to stock. It still has some upgrades on the car and I am building it for street/strip and show.

Then I found Mad Dog transmissions. I understand I am rather new here, I haven't worked on many cars by myself. I have friends and family that help me with swapping parts and such. So I called Mad Dog Transmissions today. I spoke with Lou, I am looking at buying the big boy 4l60e. The level 4 rated up to 800 hp. I will be adding in the trans cooler (even though I already have one installed) and a 2400 stall torque converter. ALL PARTS FROM MAD DOG WILL BE INSTALLED!! by a local Transmission company.

With all this said I am going to order the level 4 trans and all the mad dog components offered with the trans. I will be taking pictures of the car before, during the install, after the install and will keep others informed on how it is holding up.

The reason for this post is NOT to give Mad Dog transmissions a good review, NOR is it to bash them in any way. I am a full time college student while working and on a budget. I have to save up for used 243 heads and a ls6 intake, (used I found the heads for around $300). I know how it is to not have money to throw down the drain. So THIS POST is made to inform people; I will show the receipt, Picks of how the trans comes in, Pick of the install and will get the people who put it in to give me a break down of what they did and post that. I will "Break-in" the trans before I get on it. I will post the upgrades done with picks and how the trans mission holds up.

Like I said this will be in no way a bash or praise on Mad Dog until we see what happens and how well the trans mission preforms. I feel that with getting all the parts from mad dog (trans, converter, cooler) and having it installed in a shop (transmission shop with great standings) will cover my *** in any way, shape, or form.

Well Lou I don't know if you remember talking to me on the phone today. My name is Brad Thompson and I am from Charleston SC. I asked you a bunch of questions about the transmission I was going to be ordering from you. All I can say is Good luck man. Lets see if all these posts you have made on here will hold up. I will be calling you tomorrow to order it.

Bud you can blah, blah, blah, me all you want. I don't know Lou, I never dealt with Mad Dog transmissions.

Yet when I see "my dads, brothers, best friends dads, bosses, husbands, uncle bought one of these and it was crap", it just shows the ignorance of some people.

Others have posted "I bought one and it blew in 3 days and it tore the engine out of my car and bent the frame" yet they can produce no Proof they even bought the trans from them.

On the other side I did not see a pic of Lous dyno, random people came on here and made one post the whole time they have been here and it says he bought the trans from mad dog transmissions and won the lemans in a stock s10 pick up because the trans was sssoooo great.

Others claim that they get his trans and beat it to crap and had it for 600 years and never had a problem.

All I am trying to do is give people a HONEST answer for those who really are wondering if any of this is true. 90% of the people complaining about his product cannot show proof they bought it. I can ATLEAST say Lou stepped up and said Yea I made a few mistakes and now we back on track. I corrected my wrongs and now I want to show people these are greats transmissions.

Well I am going to leave in a few min and deposit the money in the bank and proceed like I said in my previous posts. If the trans are crap I will be the first to say this POS went out 3 months in. If not then I have no problem saying had it for 3 months runs great. Either way my posts will be honest.

Ya I think I will be donating my $$ to Jake. Rather spend 4K on a trans once than $1500 on a trans that I will have to R&R 3 times to get it right. Autozone has some of the best warranties in the industry yet sell the poorest quality parts... make sense??

i have had 2 transmissions from Mad Dog and they both failed the same way. with only 9000 miles on the second one. no motion at all. guess what i called Lou NO HELP AT ALL. i get people make mistakes but the only mistake that can be made here is anyone buying anything from this shop. send your money to Jake. a man that stands behind what he sells.

well said....some people just dont get this, they buy the warranty.

buy a trans not the warranty.....i will guaranty if it breaks,no one is gonna show up & R&R it for you.
been there done that.

being fair too maddog,i have never tried their product.

but i have used a few other sponsors trans....auto & m6.
ended up going with a FLT & it worked the first time, like they should.....

Finally got the mad dog level 4 4l60e. ordered it on the 10th of dec and it came in yesterday. It is rated at 800 horses, also got the 2400 stall torque converter and trans cooler from them in the same package. I will take the pictures of how it all came in on the crate. I was going to do it today but the trans shop I am having install the trans is closed today. I will post pictures of the crate and how it came in and the install as soon as I get the install done.

Good luck. Hopefully things go well for your install. More importantly, hopefully it holds together like they say it should. Got a lot of brass to buy something from them given the preceding rep.

I never have understood why a company like this gets so many chances after they screw up/screw people royally. This company is like a turd that won't flush lol. Oh well, at least someone's getting a break whether it's for the company or off in the next customer. Lol
