Default Speed Sensor Air Gap

Does anyone know the correct air gap between the speed sensor and the reluctor wheel on the trans output shaft? I'm trying to put a 4L60E sensor and wheel into my T56 and I can't get a good reading from the sensor. Right now with the sensor almost touching the wheel (about 0.01-0.02" gap I'm guessing) it's reading about the correct speed up to 30mph, where it then starts bouncing around and tripping my SES and BRAKE lights. Over 30mph it will read about the right speed but bounces around +-3mph.

I moved the sensor out a small amount, about 0.02" and it was reading way off, about 1/3 of what it should be, and was bouncing the whole time.

I'm guessing I need to get it as close as possible, but that's just a guess.

Default

I layered tape onto the sensor until it touched the reluctor wheel, then took off the tape and measured the thickness. I got 0.02". Does this sound about right?
