Converter needed or not?
Hey guys I have all parts needed for my head and cam swap and trying to find out if I need a converter or not. This will be my setup.
2001 Chevy Camaro SS LS1 auto.
Cam EPS 226/230 113+2
Heads 243 stock
Car already has:
American Racing Headers 1 7/8 LT with cats/Magnaflow exhaust
Stock gears/Stock trans
Car will not see the track only street and it’s my Daily driver.
Would like to hear from also from people that have a similar setup and if they are running one what size they are running.
thanks!

Any cam larger than an LS6 needs a converter in my opinion
Not only will that cam try to push through the brakes, buck, and surge but it will be a complete roach without a converter.

Absolutely gonna need a converter with that cam. You don't have to go huge, but it'll be a turd without a converter.
Circle D Specialties makes a custom 3B that works really well with that cam. It will drive like stock until you hit the go pedal and then it becomes a tire fryer. It's a great street converter IMO.
Good luck!

thanks for the help and reply guys.
Yeah Chris(Circle D) recommended a 245mm 3B 3500
Yank recommend their SS3600
And FTI recommended thier SRLS0380 or the 3082 Both are at 2800
So not sure which I will be going with.

Your set up and my wifes DD/track car is very similiar and with the CDS 3B the car was amazingly streetable and it ran 11.2s on drag radials in good air. We didn't have to spin the car high to get the ETs and I really liked that. It'll last forever like that
Regardless of your choice, I'm sure your combo will be a strong runner. GL!

We ran the 3B which is a 3700 stall in her car with the 346, stock 243 heads and the custom EPS cam. After we installed the Strange S60 with the 3.73s we swapped to a Circle D 2E 4000 stall to allow us to footbrake the car higher when bracket racing it.

I have an almost identical cam in my G8. It has a little shake in park, a very light lope in drive, but all in all is pretty tame. To get the most out of it a small stall would probably be best. I was thinking 2800-3200 range. Keep in mind my transmission is a six speed with a 2.92 rear end ratio.

get atleast a 3200 stall, dont worry bout drivability, since you will have lock-up on the highway. Just be sure to get a tranny cooler for city driving. Wish my TH400 had lockup!
