TCI 3500 Install
I haven't done any tranny work in the past, is there a chance I could install this myself? I would like to for the experience, but I don't want to mess anything up.
Any opinions?

its not an install for a novice and it can be a very frustrating at times...i had mine done at cartek and even on a lift I could see it isnt the easiest thing to do especially for a novice like me...take it for what its worth but Im in the middle of a head/cam swap but didnt do my TC lol. If youve got stock manifolds you more than likely break 1 or more of the bolts so try not to drop the ypipe if at all possible, try not to loose any eclips and have fun trying to separate the tranny from the block for the first time as even on the lift took roy a good 10 minutes.

i done mine and didnt have much tranny experience, it can be a pain at times but its not THAT bad. You need lots of extensions and a swivel and make SURE that the converter slides and locks ALL the way back and you dont just stick it on the tranny, i had to take mine back apart cause i thought it slid in all the way and didnt, very frustrating.
You can do it. I finished mine last weekend.
You don't have to remove the exhaust at all.I did mine with the car on jackstands in my garage. It sucked but I did it myself
Since you have a '98 you'll have to trim the plastic inspection cover on your trans to get the starter off. The starter bolts are 15mm and a socket will not fit on them without a bit of trimming to the plastic cover.I used a carpenters knife.
Use a screwdriver to pop the shifter cable off the shift arm on the trans. Don't try to dismantle it like I did. DO NOT try to install the dipstick tube back into the trans with the grommet on the tube. Put the grommet into the trans first. Next time I'll trim a little metal off the bottom of the tube.
Bring some extra patience, rent a proper trans jack or buy an attachment for your floor jack, good drop light, get a 3/8th drive 13mm swivel socket, around 40inches of 3/8ths drive extensions as well as some prybars and you'll be good to go.
8 bolts and two locating pins hold the tranny to the engine
I just put in a post about this a few days back. Search for "Installing Converter " or something like that.
