Default 4l60e vs. 4l65e Difference in anything?

Hey guys,

Dumb question. 2004 GTO, has a built 4l60 in it, getting a rebuild, but the car is NOT getting beefed up again, and have a chance to snag a rebuilt 4l65e for a few bucks cheaper then it would cost to rebuild mine, is this a direct swap?

I think they are basically the same, sprag is different i think, not really sure, but are the connectors and converters the same?

Thanks,

Kyle

Yes it is a direct swap as long as it is not a 2007(?) or later 4L65E.
Somewhere between 2007 and 2010, GM dropped the 3-2 downshift solenoid and changed from the pressure switch assembly to a mechanical switch assembly. I could not get a 2010 4L60E to work with my pre-2007 PCM and therefore swapped in a 2001 valve body which has all the "old" parts.

The connectors and converters are the same. The 4l65E just had some strengthen parts, including a hardened input shaft, 7-friction 3/4 clutch and 5-pinion planetaries. Don't know about the sprags, but I noticed my 2010 had better sprags than e.g. a 2001.
