Default converter vibration?

my car has recently developed a vibration at around 2-3k depending on how hard I accelerate. It also has a vibration when you first begin to accelerate from a stop. The one from a stop only lasts for about 1 second till the rpms get higher. The one at 2k or above will last just a bit longer. Could this be due to the TC beggining to fail? I have checked all the bolts and everything seems ok, It also started leaking oil from the rear a few weeks after this issue came about. Now Im scared to drive it in case the vibration is what caused the rear to leak oil and I dont want it to cause any more damage. Anyone have something similar happen to them?

I have the exact same thing. The longer I drive it the worse it gets. Also, trans temp rises and shifting get very loose. This after two built 4l60e 's, converter and tune. I give up and now shopping for new everything. Will also get new tune. My guess is converter but I'm tired of transmission swaps so I hope a different trans (th400) and converter will be it for awhile.

Will post up if i find anything during removal but i doubt it. Good luck

Edit: My issues were very, very low miles, before any track passes

It was the was same converter which is part of why I think that was it. However my plans for the car have changed and so has my income so I'm not going to bother any more with troubleshooting. I might cut the converter open for fun but we'll see. It might be awhile before I find the right combo to install, sorry I don't have a fix for you but I would swap out your converter.

The reason I used the same converter in trans #2 is the first trans wouldn't shift to 3rd and I thought the vib was from the bad transmission but imo the converter was always bad.

it sounds like you mentioned the fix right there. TC seems to be the issue for both of us. Suck cause im dead broke right now so im going to have to let the car sit till I can get a new one. Im thinking of using a PTC for my next one. Heard lots of good reviews for them

So I dropped my pan and I found metal in there. Not sure what it is, but flushing lines and a new transmission and converter are going in.

My advice, since we have very similar symptoms...drop your pan and check it out.

I agree the shape does appear like a clutch pack ring but this seems much smaller to me...one of those smaller rings in the converter?? I don't know...I'm an engine guy myself and have to trust others on transmission stuff (I've had very bad luck with broken units right out of the box, before a single race). The converter and trans are going back to their respective builders. We'll find out if my luck has turned for the better this weekend with the new setup...

My car vibrates and makes a bunch of noise after my converter went in a couple months ago but it's only when it is locked but I fall under the lockup speed and am trying to accelerate back up past it giving it very little gas to keep it locked which I think is normal. Thanks for the description of this problem though, I'll have to keep an eye on it.

If indeed you have a converetr vibration problem you should be able to get your converter balanced. we balance the internals before installation and the complete unit after weld up. If it is one of mine I will recheck it for free.
