Default 4l80 questions

Ok so I'm not very good with all this auto stuff and I'm strongly debating to go auto... Basically I want the simplicity of a turbo 400 swap but a overdrive like the new transmissions like the 4l60 and 80. Which brings me too ask with a manual valve body can u do away with all transmission computer with a 4l80e and how does converters work do u get a lock up converter? And is there other STRONG over drive trannys out there that would suit me better for what I want to do? Any info is appreciated

IMHO I would not go manual, it's old technology. But jakes performance has a manual box that you plug in and it allows full manual.. Or pm "slow67" and he can help with wiring your 4l80e to your stock tranny harness.

What car are you in because the above advice might change a bit..

I want easy simple strength and overdrive with a auto and full manual is what I'd like for simplicity sake due to the fact I don't have to tune a tranny. The car is a 02 camaro with 9inch spool and 4.30s cam only for now .

Full manual 4L80E will work fine in that combo.

You just have to use a switch or other method for converter lockup.

thanks for the reply...can i run that setup with a hurst quarter stick? Also do I have to run the vaccum modulator like everyone talks about...i am totally fine with a hard shifting car if thats all that happens with know. And the switch you talk about is that the same switch i see on your website the has three wires including the trans brake? sorry for all the questions, id just like to be as educated as possible before I go off and spend a good chunk of change on trans.

You should be able to use the Hurst shifter with some minor fab work if it has a 4 speed gate. No vacuum modulator is necessary.
The manual control box is what you need to run it full manual.
