rebuild 4l80e
#4
The 4l80e has been around for 21 years so finding a core should be easy. Look for one from 1996 that does not seem too beat up or smell burnt. They go for around $275-$300for that year so don't pay more than that. Buy an overhaul kit that contains the upgraded high energy cluthches or equivalent like Raybestos Stage 1 frictions. A good manual to reference and some patience should be a start. Transtar, WIT, or Precision International are some transmission parts vendors you can use to find parts.

Go with Transtar, buy a LATE model 4L80E kit. That will have the Hi Energy frictions you need. Check out Jake's Performance, we sell rebuild kits of varying levels to guys who want to rebuild their own 4L80E. Goes from a basket gasket/filter set to a complete Stage II - V.
