What type of oil does a 4l60e use?

For the past 10 years or so, GM has recommended Dexron VI, a full synthetic.
Many people use the cheaper Dexron III; I have not seen any strong argument for Dexron VI. Nonetheless, my local trans shop sells me Dexron VI at $50 a case of 12 and that is what I use.
BTW - There is an interesting current thread on using Hydraulic oil. Seems that ATF is hydraulic oil with some additives and red dye.

I was running Dex VI (I think, it was whatever was in the car when I bought it and since it has under 30k miles it's on the stock fluid probably)
When I put in my trans cooler in I obviously lost a little fluid. I ended up putting a splash of Dex M in it to make up for the fluid loss. I had a shop install my converter, no idea what fluid they used.
Dex III/M should be fine, Dex VI for best results.
