Default 4l60e/700r4 tail shaft

I'm looking at putting a 4l60e into my 73 duster(using a tf3 kit to get rid of electronics for the time being)

I've been looking at google images and it looks like there are two types of 2wd tailhousing. Ones that have what looks like a speedo gear housing? and one without.

large circular housing:

no circular housing:

Are these interchangable and would that tailshaft interchange onto a 700r4?

Asking because with a mopar i'm dealing with a torsion bar crossmember and that circuler housing makes for a lot cutting/fabrication to fit the transmission. Where it looks like the narrow housing will fit with little/no cutting.

You can put a 700r tail housing onto a 4l60e but you will need and adapter plate such as the JTR kit.I have my 4l65e set up this way but do not have it in service yet.

The only down side I see is it moves the mount back a few inches, going in a Mopar your will be fabricating a crossmember any way so it should not be a big deal

Nova404, i've seen the aftermarket tail housing kits sell for $550 that do the same job as what you've shown above. How much would all the parts cost that you've shown in your first picture above?

Thank you.

In your 2nd pic, the speedo bore is on the other side of the extension housing... look at the small bore in this pic:

Also, take note of the number of mounting bolts (6 vs 4).

He was actually referring to this (green arrow in attached)... [ it looks like a 700R4 if you zoom in ]
