Default LS crank spacer?

I have a question about the spacer needed to put a 4L80E behind a 5.3. Why can't you just make some spacers to go between the flexplate and the converter instead of between the crank and the flexplate? Just curious, thanks.

the 4L80E converter snout is aprx .400 shorter than the 4L60E, so the converter wont register in the crank-spacers on the pads wont center it to the crank, shake and shimmy all day long, lol
not sure why they didnt just make it all the same-kind of like that chevelle thing with diff mounts for a 307 vs a 350 engine, lol
