Default 3600 stall

Guys with 3600 stall, what gears are you running? My car will be just a bolt on car for some time. Also I DD it, a lot of highway driving.

I know the 373 will be good gear for a 3600, but the rpm's may be high for all the highway driving I do.

I have a 3.42 with a Yank SS3600; the converter is surprisingly tight for easy city driving.
Even with 26" tires you will be around 2800 rpm @80 mph with a 3.73 rear.

What are you at on the highway around 70 mph?

I had 3.23 with ss3600 for the first year. During heads+cam install I had 3.73 installed. Both are good gears. If your that worried about the gears just stay with 3.23.
Honstly though I really dont think its much of a difference. I only lost 2-3mpg from the last build and I dont blame the 3.73 very much for it.

If it's only like a 2-3mpg I can live with that.

With 3.42 and 26.5" tires I run about 2300 rpm at 70 mph.
This calculator might help:
http://www.wallaceracing.com/gear-speed.php

Enter:
26 (This is your tire diameter)
.7 (This is OD ratio in 4l60e)
3.23
3.42
3.73

This will show you RPM and MPH for the different rear ratios.

But you do realise what I said though right? The decrease in mpg was not all the 3.73. I installed heads, cam, intake, and smaller boltons at the same time as the 3.73. So if its just the addition of 3.73 then I wouldnt have seen that much decrease in mpg.

where you allready have 323 not 273 and doing a 3600 stall the stall will give you a great gain

I dont think 323 to 373 on a stalled car is going to make 1/3 the difference the stall will make as far as et drop , with all your highway driving put the gear swap money into another mod youll be happier. , wait till the rear has an issue to change gears ( let sleeping dogs lie)

Like these guys said, 3.23 should be fine. My 2000 SS has a 3400 stall and it is like a night and day difference compared to the 99 SS I had with the stock converter.

I'm going with a Vig 3600, but my current gears are 2.73s, trying to decide on 3.42 or 3.73s, I hardly do any highway drives, so thinking 3.73,

If it were me I'd go 4.10s if you are brave enough. When I get a 4k stall in a few months I'll be going 4.10 with a 28 inch tire. But I think 3.73 would be a good choice.

This is my dd for now, and I don't want to be near or at 3000rpm on the highway. When I drive 42 miles a day.

Do the stall and you will love it. It will be the difference like night and day, it will wake that car up, and get the same mileage. Remember you will have to tune your car for the converter.

I have an ss3600 with 3.23s and I dd the car a lot depending on the weather. I like it and once its locked its not bad at all. On the highway I'm turning roughly 2k rpms at 65. Driving in town you will lose a few mpgs but nothing drastic.
