about 20 years ago I had a small block nova that ran 12.5's for me on a $50 junkyard turbo 350 with just a shift kit and convertor , unknown miles. the lighter the car is generally the lower in et a certain trans can take

In a light car that doesnt make gobs of power it will hold up pretty well. With an all stock unmodified TH350 I would be willing to bet that rpm is what is going to kill it depending what rpm you turn. With a stock direct clutch it will centrifugally apply at high rpm, the cast sealing rings will chew the pump up and the pump itself if not set up properly wont have the longest life either. If you are shifting at 5k rpm you are good, If you are twisting it to 8k rpm its not long for this world..

If it was mine I would at least pull the pump and direct clutch out. Drill a bleed hole in the direct clutch drum and put teflon rings on the pump. It might be fine without but I doubt it thats kind of pushing it..

I was in the same boat as you. After my cam swap and 90k miles my stock 4l60e had given up. I had a "600hp" rated th350 (TCI manual valve body, good clutches, reverse pattern shift, ect) laying around from another car I had, and I swapped it into my 2000 Z28 that made 447rwhp and blew it up in less than 100 miles. Had it rebuilt locally, put it in, it lasted about another 75-100 miles and I broke the 2nd gear sprag. Sold the car, new owner bought some 700hp rated TH350 to put in it and has had good luck ever since from what I hear. For me, I wish I would've just went TH400 from the start, but I didn't want to change crossmembers and driveshafts AGAIN after just completing the th350 swap.

The bleed hole should be about 0.060". If you do tear it open, I'd also make sure you dual feed those direct clutches, it will require either a cup plug or tapping and putting in a set screw in the case.

A lot of people use manual valve bodies so they don't have to worry about finding vacuum to shift the trans. Plus manual valve bodies are much funner!!
