97 4l60e vs. 99 4l60e
I have a 69 Camaro running a 99 ls1 with a built 700r4 and Yank 3200 tc. I would like to switch to 4l60e, my tc will only work with a trans from 97 and older. Money is tight I can't afford to buy a new tc, so will a 97 4l60e bolt right up to my 99 ls1? Are the electronics the same? I know I will have to have my tuner change the shift points, but other than that what will I need to change for this to work? Thanks

EDIT: My post was wrong because I had the years reversed. I therefore removed most of my post.
IMHO, the pre '98 4L60E was designed to -barely- handle the power of a 300HP engine. Hooking them up to a 400+ HP LSx will quickly lead to disappointment.
The Craiglist value of a '97 versus a '98 4L60E is about the same. You might consider selling what you have (before you break it) and getting a used '98 or later one. (Be sure it has a 300mm input shaft and the bell housing has a bolt hole at 12 O-Clock). It shouldn't be that hard to find a good used LS compatible converter.
Just my opinion.

Thanks for the reply, my trans guy will build me a 4l60e and swap me even for my 700r. I'm the one who will have to install it. I know my tc will not work with a 99 4l60e, it will only work with a 97 and earlier trans. My car does have a cam so I want to keep my tc, I just don't have the extra cash to buy a new tc to fit the new trans. My combo works well, some day I'd like to put a 4l60e trans in the car. Thanks again!

You should be able to use a 6.0L flexplate, crank spacer and bolts. No reason why it wont work. Also im not positove if it will work or not but I dont see why you couldnt use the ls1 flexplate and the crank spacer on top sandwiching the flexplate. Im not sure what the 2nd option would gain you except not having to buy another flexplate.
Either option is going to require you to gently oblong the converter bolt holes inward 1/4".
Either way whatever you end up doing just make sure the converter sits in the back of the crank/crank adapter, if not it will get real ugly eventually...

Perhaps my comment #2 was incorrect, but as I said, I don't have experience with this.
To answer the rest of your question, '96 thru '06 are electrically identical and there is no reason you would need to change shift points as the gear ratios are the same.
Sorry for my previous inaccurate statement.
(Since this question comes up often, I'm now on a mission to learn all about it.)
