Not your typical "TH350 vs. TH400" thread I'm building a 87 RCSB S-10 and need to know what 3 speed to use. I'm shooting to make this a NHRA legal 9.90 super gas bracket racer.
Full factory frame
Art Morrison 12 pt. MS cage
Ford 8.8 w/ 3.73s, full spool, aftermarket axles, 9" housing ends and bearings
05 5.3 LH6 (all aluminum, 9.9:1 CR)
799 heads
double springs and PR's
LS7 lifters
LS9 gaskets
23x/23x .61x/.60x spec'd cam
Single On3 76mm .96 T4
Vic Jr EFI
275 DR's
CalTrac style traction bars with 3" drop leafs
Hoping to stay around 3000 lbs race weight, and motor should be capable of over 600 at the wheels. Not concerned about the "extra" HP is takes to spin a 400. T-brake is a definite. Looking for consistency and durability. I know that 350's can be built to handle 1000 HP, but at what expense? What am I looking at for necessary parts? Most likely will be using a CSR shield.

I've went through three "700rwhp rated" TB th350s with my 450rwhp car, and didn't even make it to the track..that was just playing around on the street. To do it over I'd go th400 from the start.
