how much better is the 80 over 60 will the 80 bolt up in my 4x4 with out having to change drive shafts or anything?

One thing for sure it's heavier .. And depends on the new 80e

it would be going in my 2002 avalanche which does alot of off roading and towing so im not real worried bout the weight just want it to hold up

There are dozens (hundred?) threads in this forum on swapping from a 4L60E to a 4L80E. Search for "4L80E swap".

The basics:
Yes, it will bolt up.
It is much more durable especially in a heavy vehicle.
You need a different torque converter.
Not sure about the driveshaft length, but shortening only costs about $100.
You need a software change to your PCM called a "segment swap" or a converter, and/or a minor change to the trans wiring harness. The PCM changes are described in this multi-year thread, including the latest news:

You will have to have your rear driveshaft shortened, and the front a longer one made, or find a couple of factory driveshafts that are the same length.
