i was wondering if there is a way to bypass the lockup features on the 700r4.

Yes there is. Get a non lockup valve that goes in the pump then remove the ball and capsule that is in the input shaft.

if its 1984 to 93 u can leave it unpluged they sell a valve that goes in the pump but it will shift fine with out being plugged in if you do a lot of highway driving it will run hotter without a lock up but with a good cooler you will not get into a over heating problem u can wire it on a toggle switch though pretty easy
