need a little help on a trans swap
hello guys, this is my first post and hope you all can help me, i have a 2000 ram air trans am with ls1 6 speed, hot cam, long tube headers , ls6 intake, and a few other things in the motor, my trans is getting a little loose and not shifting right , clutch is getting bad etc etc, the car is a real pain to drive in traffic as my wife drives it not me and people around here drive like total morons and you cant find "the happy medium" that the cam and trans like speed wise when your behind these idiots and they always drive side by side and you cant pass and they drive under the speed limit all the time,,,,,,,,,welcome to milton florida !!! i have a 4l60e out of a 93 z28 with 10k on it and want to put it in the car and take the 6 speed out and save it for a later project i have in mind, i have seen some sites that have the trans controller and computer, but i am a little new to the ls1, i am still in the old school with a bbc or sbc, my wife really wanted the car so i had no choice,,,,,,,you know how it is !
i would really really appreciate any links or tips so i can do this cheap as i can, but not buy cheap china parts, i would like to keep a budget but still do it right and only once, i have a lift and a trans jack so doing the job is basicly easy for me, just need the right parts ! all help will be appreciated 100% thanks,Jim

Welcome to the forum.
When you say "4l60e out of a 93 z28 with 10k" do you mean the trans has 10K on it since a recent rebuild, or do you mean the engine has 10k on it and the trans is stock and never rebuilt?
If the trans was never rebuilt, IMHO I would say STOP. That was a very early year, lets call it the Beta-test years when the 4L60E was weak and developed its poor reputation. Putting a 20 year old trans that when new could barely handle 275HP behind a LS1 with 400+HP will quickly lead to disappointment.
Even if the trans was recently rebuilt with performance parts, it would be very difficult because it is the wrong year. The LS engines want a '98 or later 4L60E with a 300mm input shaft; yours is a totally different design 298mm. I understand that a 298mm can be made to fit using the older style converter, a spacer and drilling the flexplate holes. But that doesn't solve it...
The '93 is a non-PWM which affects the type of pump, valve body and solenoids it has. Your 2000 PCM expects a PWM trans with different valve body and solenoids; else the computer cannot control it correctly.
My suggestion is to sell it on Craigslist and buy a used '98 or up to '06 4L60E with an LS compatible converter.
Now, once you have a '98 or later, you would need the following:
* Flexplate
* Converter
* Trans cooler
* Cooler lines
* A significant mod to the PCM's wiring harness for the 13 wires that go to the trans
* A reflash of the PCM to support the A4 trans
* Not sure about a different trans support and different length driveshaft.
* An A4 compatible shifter
* Wiring on the shifter for the Park/Neutral safety switch
* I am probaby missing a few details.
I am sorry not to have better news for you; I suspect you will decide this is too much to do. I bet there are people who would love to swap their A4 car from your M6.

this is what i seen on fleabay, would this work good ?

the trans was rebuilt with hardened parts in it , the wife never uses more than 150 hp driving, she just likes the rumble of the cam and the car itself and really never gets on it , i havent even taken it down the track yet, since emerald coast dragway closed , i've lost all interest in racing, i am not 100% positive on the year of it , i can look tomorrow, if i remember right it has a corvette servo and hardened sunshell, i am sure more was done, it was a buddy who built the trans that really knows what he is doing, the z28 had all kinds of goodies but wasnt ran hard, just a driver
my buddy scott said to go into the original harness and reflash the computer, i really dont want to do all that, thats why i was looking at this controller, and i know i have to buy a flywheel for the swap

The FAST standalone controller certainly is another option and perhaps the only reasonable way to get around the non-PWM issue.
Reflashing a 2000 PCM will NOT make it work with a non-PWM trans.
Glad to hear the trans was rebuilt with performance parts; that year sure needed it.
Since my 1st reply didn't scare you away, hopefully we can answer more specific questions you might have.

oh no, nothing to do with a car scares me
i have been building street rods and muscle cars as a career for 25 plus years, just dont know much about the ls1 yet, if that would work then the flywheel is the next part, the shifter and console i still have out of a v-6 car i junked a while ago.
would this work for the spacer for the flexplate, and do you think i need anything else other than the automatic flexplate, thats easy enough to score here

Cool and great!
I never know with a newbie if they already know 100x more than me or if an adjustable wrench is their only tool.
I don't know if that is the right spacer, so let me ask...
Who know if that is the right spacer??
