Building 4L60 with PTC Convertor. Lock or No Lockup?
Hello All,
Need some help and/or advice please...
Building a 4L60 for my 02 Procharged TA. Car should be right around 800Hp to the rear wheels when its all said and done.
Trying to decide if I want to run a lockup converter or eliminate lockup all together.
What are everyones thoughts???
Thanks,

I know the lockup is worth its weight in gold as far as street mileage and cooling the trans but will lockup really help with 1/4 mile times versus the non lockup PTC Converter?
I already have a new PTC 3800 stall non-lockup converter, but my transmission guy is trying to talk me into doing a lockup converter with around a 3000 stall.

As Grr implied, you MUST tune the PCM to UN-LOCK with anything over 45% throttle. Even the stock tune is that way; if you have a lot of power, you may want to tune that percentage even lower.
A lockup converter will give you better gas mileage and reduce heat when driving on the highway.
800HP is likely too much for your 4L60e. I know hi-end builders are successfully testing 4L60e with all the best parts (Sonnax Smart-Tech input drum, billet shafts and pistons, etc) at 750HP, but these units cost $4000+.
Therefore buying a lock-up converter may not make sense since you likely will need to swap to a 4L80E soon anyway.
