Default Which converter?

I plan on getting drag radials this week(275's 17), but am looking for a converter. My car has the damn 2.73's, I wanted to get rid of those as well. I've never visited the track, and probably would rarely ever do so, maybe a few times. I'm looking for something that could launch pretty good on the street and the occasional roll up to 90-100 mph. I don't have many mods, though I will be getting a cam in the future, but not too soon. There's a lot of options out there, I'm just not sure which ones are good for me.

I would suggest a 3500 or 3800 TCI or Yank. Also get some 3.42's or 3.73's.

I have a Yank SS3800 with 2.73 gears.

Daily driving hasn't changed much, just a few hundred rpms higher, but when I want it to rip, it throws me in my seat!!!

Since you have an 01 I would suggest getting tuned and having a few codes turned off like p0757, basically it locks your transmission up and you drive around in 2nd or 3rd gear, it really sucks. Or you could pull over and disconnect your battery for 30 secs then hit the road again and everything is good.

I would go with the TCI Super Street Fighter (SSF) 3500. This is a GREAT converter. Great street manors and a BEAST at the track.
In addition to great performance (and efficiency) you also get a company that REALLY prides themselves on great customer service. TCI will stand behind their product. You can not go wrong with TCI and Kevin Winstead who is a contact at TCI. Kevin also reads and posts on this and other boards.

I might be wrong but I have never heard of a TCI converter that causes a P0757 code. It seems to me that if you have to have the PCM re-programmed at a cost of ~$200 to fix a problem the converter caused then you might want to look at a different converter.

I know that Texas Speed and Performance sells TCI products as well as other sponsors.

Good lock

P0757 is pretty common in 01+02s with large stall converters

I think we haven't heard many pop up with a TCI because most people buy the SSF3500, and P0757 tends to start kicking in when you get 3800+

I don't think I would have run into this problem if I went with an SS3600, but I wanted the extra performance and actually wish I went with a 4000+ now, the converter is that tight!

*EDIT* made a correction

What converter did you go with? SS3800?

Enjoy

Yeah I think I was shipped an extremely tight SS3800....I was even told by Cartek that it is a very tight feeling with great street manners for a 2.73 geared car and 3800 stall.

But overall I am extremely happy with the converter and think I picked the perfect converter, and it sure does haul *** and the shift extension is pretty sweet!

I have the Yank SY3500 along with my 323's.
Pricey? Yes. But for me it's all about power & efficiency since i drive my car "everyday". I have approx 4K on this converter with absolutely no problems.

Oh, & it will throw you back in the seat as well coupled by great street manners. Don't forget the Trans cooler....... It's a MUST with this mod...
