Default Transmission Fitment Question

I need a trans for a 2002 Z28. I have found a transmission that has a 9MSD on the side of it. Can anyone tell me if it will work?

Thanks
Andy

First, I assume you are referring to a 4L60E.
The leading ''9" should indicate it is a 1999, which is a good start.
More importantly, check that it has a removable bell housing -AND- has a bolt hole in the 12-O'Clock position. If it doesn't have that bolt hole, it could be a 6-cyinder trans, a corvette trans or something else. That bolt hole indicates it has a 300mm input shaft and will work with LS1 compatible converters.

Send us a picture if you are not sure.

Here is a pic of it. Maybe that will help?

I'm not an expert, but I think that is probably a '99 from a 6 cylinder car. It does not have the bolt hole in the 12 O-O'clock position and therefore probably has an 298mm input shaft. IIRC it will work with an older LT1 style converter, spacer and a different (or drilled) flexplate.

See this detailed thread on the topic:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/automatic...urus-help.html

See the right-most picture in post #6 which is what the LS-compatible 300mm input shaft looks like. I suspect you do not have that.

Since I'm not an expert on this, watch for any following corrections or suggestions.

Its not only possibly from a 6CYL but is for the vortec/lt-style engines V6 and V8 they were used in some trucks from about 97 to 2000 and continued to be used with the 4.3 into later years.
Now can you use it sure you will need the same spacer collar that's used for a 350/400 conversion with and LSI the electronics will be compatible. You will need to swap the tail housing from your old one.
Frank

NOTES: It will not have the corvette servo like your original fbody but you can swap it over
